MOVIE REVIEW: WOLVERINE 3 TRAILER
Logan which popularly goes by Wolverine 3, is the third in a series of Wolverine-titled films. The first and second movies were called X-MEN: Wolverine and The Wolverine respectively. The three movies are based on a novel, Wolverine written by Roy Thomas, Len Wein, and John Romita Sr and they are all American Superhero films.
The much-awaited third Wolverine spin-off, Logan will hit the screens on March 3, 2017. The film is being directed by James Mangold, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Green and Scott Frank, from a story by David James Kelly and Mangold.
Hugh Jackman plays the starring role as Logan, and this is widely expected to be his final portrayal of the role having done it for 17 years. 47 Yrs Old Jacked-man Training For Wolverine 3 Looking Ripped As Hell . There is already talk of who could be the new Wolverine. Names that have been floated include to not limited to; Karl Urban, Charlie Hunnan, Toby kebbel, Anson Mount, Alex O’Loughlin, Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf, Kit Harrington, Scott Eastwood, Luke Evans, Iwan Rheon, Tom Hardy, Clive Standen, Travis Fimmel, and Michiel Huisman. But he will be our best favorite Jacked-man (get it?)
The trailer’s brutal, vicious and outstanding trailer leaves much to be anticipated by Wolverine fans. Logan is said to have incorporated fan views into its plot. Hence fans will be getting what they have wanted out of a Wolverine movie. Besides, this being Hugh Jackman’s final outing Wolverine, it has to be memorable. It takes inspiration from an iconic Marvel story ‘Old Man Logan.’
Logan takes place in dystopian future of 2024 in which various super villains are taking over the United States of America. Most of Wolverine’s friends are dead, and his abilities aren’t as sharp as they used to be. His powers are disappearing. In fact, he heals so slowly. The film is darker. Darker than the first two Wolverine movies or any of the X-Men Movies.
Logan is weary, and the bottle is his best friend.
The film revolves around a young mutant girl who is said to need Logan’s protection and mentorship. In 2024, mutant births are on the decline and nobody knows why. There’s talk of a government project that is turning the remaining young mutants into killing machines. Logan manages to protect and mentor the girl.
Also in the trailer, which has Johny Cash’s song, Hurt fittingly playing in the background, Professor X is alive, and Logan is appeared to have kept him on life support in a secret bunker.
The villain in the trailer seems to be Donald Pierce which is portrayed by Boyd Holbrook. The villain has an army known as Reavers. How will Logan weather this storm? He is old and can now be scarred. Will this be the best of the Wolverine series?
The trailer elicited the following comments;
- Can someone explain to me why he’s not able to heal like he used to? I loved his magic in previous movies. I can wait to see this act.
- I always crying when I see this trailer. Damn. It strikes me hard. Am waiting for this movie.
- Every actor (the ones that play comic book heroes) tries to adapt to the character that was written in the comics, ”Marvel” adapted Wolverine to Hugh Jackman.
- Who watches this trailer every day? I’m already addicted. What of the full movie?
- Fox had done a fantastic job with The X-men universe, aside from Apocalypse (which in many ways was still a good movie). I look forward to this so much.
This film, the last in Wolverine series, is budgeted to cost 127 Million US Dollars.
Logan’s music score is set to be composed by Cliff Martinez.
Though it may not be the greatest movie ever made, you need to watch the Wolverine series. The combination of science fiction and mystery laced with thrill is an entertainment experience you don’t want to miss. Logan, being the final of the series will serve as a fitting tribute to the departing Hugh Jackman who has portrayed the role for 17 years. Those angling to replace him for the X-MEN series have great shoes to fill. And producers need to be wary of the fact that the audience had gotten so used to Hugh Jackman. Will his exit see a drop in viewership? How do you replace such a character?
This movie is expected to make a kill once its released. The arousal from the audience who have watched the trailer explains the great interest the fans await. Everyone is looking forward to this fantastic movie that we expect its release soon. Who are you not to keep following it release?
The plot development of Logan began in 2009 with X-MEN Wolverine which was directed by Gavin Hood and written by David Benioff and Skip Woods. It was produced by Hugh Jackman who was also the main character. The co-stars were Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan and Ryan Reynolds. The plot focuses on the tumultuous past of mutant by the name James/ Wolverine and his half-brother called Victor Creed.
It all begins in 1845 in British America with young James witnessing his father being killed by a groundskeeper, Thomas Logan. The pain and anguish later activate the young boy’s mutation where bone claws protrude from his knuckles. He impales Thomas who while dying admits to being his father. James then flees with Thomas’ son, Victor Creed, also a mutant. They are pursued by a mob.
In the later years, the brothers fight the American Civil War, World War I and World War II as well as the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, they would end up in jail and somehow survive execution by a firing squad due to their unique regenerative abilities. While in military custody, they are approached by Major William Styker who ask them join Team X, an elite team of mutants including Agent Zero, Fred Dukes, John Wraith, Wade Wilson, and Chris Bradley. Fred possesses enormous strength, John’s mutation allows him to teleport, Chris has telekinetic abilities and can control electricity, Agent Zero is an exceptional marksman while Wade is an expert swordsman who talks continuously. The brothers became part of this elite group.
The group would later engage in numerous acts of murder which disgusted Wolverine leading to him leaving the team. After six years, James now goes by Logan and lives with his lover Silverfox. Major Styker attempts to get Logan to rejoin the team but doesn’t succeed. The Major enlists the help of Victor to do this. The plot thickens when Victor ends up murdering Silverfox. Members of the team start dying. Logan then seeks revenge. This now means war.
X-MEN Wolverine was shot in Australia, New Zeeland and also Canada. It was filmed from January 2008 to May the same year then released on May 1, 2009. Regarding money, the film was a success since it grossed 179 Million US Dollars in USA and Canada while over $ 373 Million was made worldwide. Though a good performer financially, the film received poor reviews with critics labeling it as uninspired and familiar and one having a poor screenplay. In spite of this, Jackman’s star performance and the action sequences received worldwide acclaim. It is said that Jackmann himself was unimpressed with the film.
Below are some of the user reviews;
“This is a suitable movie for the little and mindless entertainment. The background and complexity of wolverine story is an insult to the comedy we thought we shall source from the movie. I therefore term it as a disappointment to the fans we had a lot of expectation. One thing to note is that the movie evolves into something questionable. It lacks objectivity that would arouse its audience. For lack of better words, I will term it as a dismissible standalone disappointment.”
“Even though the film has its trices, as a cohesive whole it can be looked as nothing less than a tragic waste of potential, floundering any inherent quality in gaping plot holes and unnecessary, obvious comedy or “tearjerking” scenes. Wolverine’s adage of him being “the best I am at what I do” could hardly be farther than the truth when applied to his film”.
“Fox makes yet another movie, in my view I categorize it as a “Not Bad” movie.”
“Wolverine is not that Bad, but it’s not excellent as I could have thought.” Having watched other movies from their series I thought they could make an exceptional quality film. “My expectations were too high.”
The movie had a budget of $ 150 million and had a run time of 107 minutes, and its soundtrack was composed by Harry Gregson-Williams.
The film won the following awards;
- i. BMI Film Music Award in 2010
- ii. Scream Awards for best supporting actor in 2010.
The film also boasts of numerous nomination for instance;
- i. Kids Choice Awards in 2010 for Favorite Movie
- ii. MTV Movie Awards 2010 for Best Fight
- iii. People’s Choice Awards, USA 2010 for Favorite On-screen team
- iv. Scream Awards 2009 for Best Supporting Actor, Best Villain and Break-out Performance
- v. SFX Awards, UK 2010 for Best Actor
The second wolverine-themed film is called ‘The Wolverine’ which was released in 2013. ‘The Wolverine’ was directed by James Mangold and produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker.
In this film, a tormented Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) goes to Japan to say goodbye to an old mate. Unfortunately, he is sucked into a conflict involving ninja and yakuza in stand-alone spin-off set following proceedings of X-Men: The Last Stand, and preceding circumstances of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The story kicks off in Nagasaki. As a bomber plane appears in the sky and air-raid sirens howl, panicked Japanese troops begin sacrificing their lives. Horrified, yet unwilling to sacrifice his life, young soldier Yashida seeks cover in a protected prison pit where Wolverine happens to be. Wolverine shields Yashida from the blast.
Ever since he was forced to kill Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Wolverine has been ridden with guilt and hence, he abstained from all manners of violent activities. He retreated into solitude in the woods. One day, he was involved in an altercation with a hunter who used poisoned arrows. In the course of the confrontation, Yukio (Rila Fukushima) intervened and summoned him to Japan to visit a dying Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi), who headed a large Japanese technology company. Yashida’s dying wish was to have Wolverine protect his granddaughter Mariko (Tao Okamato) who is supposed to take over the family business in the face of opposition from her father (Hiroyuki Sanada). Wolverine assumes this responsibility, but he faces hostility from a mutant, Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova). His ability to protect Mariko comes under immense test when he loses his ability to heal.
Regarding the mystery surrounding Wolverine’s loss of the healing factor, in my opinion, I think this was caused by a parasite brought upon by Viper. The parasite was a healing suppressant.
As compared to the first movie, The Wolverine received positive reviews from critics. It got a 69% approval rating and an average rating of 6.3/10. Here are some of the user reviews;
“Entertaining with some great action scenes but far from perfect.”
“Better than I anticipated…”
“Wolverine: A revival note for the franchise…”
“The plot follows Wolverine meeting a Japanese soldier who is near death and that soldier wants to thank him for saving him as shown at the start of the film. He then dies and at his funeral they are attacked by some mysterious gang who are trying to find and kill his daughter.”
“I’ve been a fair fan of the series of the whole. Even the weaker installments I thoroughly enjoyed, so my review is already weighed for this film. I will say even from a critics point of view I thought it was well done. It’s not the standard comic book fairy tale, but more of an intrinsic study of the Wolverine character. He shows a lot of depth and vulnerability in this outing, far more than previous installments. It’s a risky but necessary move to see him operate on a balance challenge where he is prone to death at any moment. The humor is matched well with the drama for an interesting viewing all the way through. All the supporting roles I found interesting as well. I enjoyed the presence of Yukio who provided invaluable aide despite Wolverine’s incessant protests. I found it nice to see his character finally develop some closure after all the time we’ve to get to see him in all his cinematic installments.”
The movie is really good, and you should watch this one over X-men Origins Wolverine.With a production budget of $ 120 million, the film grossed $ 414.8 million worldwide.The film won 2 awards and received 11 nominations.All the music used in The Wolverine was composed by Marco Beltrami
